Rahwa, a name given to her by her parents is an ancient Abyssinian church word meaning prosperity. Born in Addis Ababa a city located in the horn of Africa, Rahwa is a singer, writer, poet and aspiring producer of Eritrean/Ethiopian descent. Fleeing a violent civil war, Rahwa immigrated to New York City at age three to reunite with her mother. Rahwa's eclectic new home, the epicenter of culture and diversity was the driving force that helped to shape the music she would one day create. From a young age Rahwa discovered her love for words, composing her first poem at age ten. She possessed a special gift for storytelling and used writing as a tool to interpret the world around her as as she saw it. She performed at local schools, show venues and public spaces throughout the City. After starting her education at Wesleyan University, a haven for young artists and thinkers, Rahwa continued performing and collaborating with musicians and other artists who shared her passion. After graduating she began a career educating youth and pursuing the arts.
